6 RIDERS
£949 or £699 Guiding only
Dates TBC - Level 2 Course
This course is for the all-mountain riders looking for a bit of adventure. Riksgränsen is a frontier vibe low alpine town 200km north of the Arctic Circle at the border of Sweden with Norway. It's steeped in Snowboard folklore having hosted some of the worlds best riders including Craig Kelly.
Due to it's Arctic location we'll be shaping our adventures around the weather and avalanche conditions. We'll be mixing up the riding with a bit of traditional resort shredding in search of fresh powder. If we explore beyond the base of Riksgransen we have the option of utilising a splitboard or snow shoes with, ski doos, snow cats or heli's. These tools allow us more opportunity to immerse ourselves in Sweden's backcountry.
Overall we're looking for riders up for a dash of piste, powder, and maybe some basic fun freestyle in pursuit of unique experiences. To allow us ultimate flexibility in chasing the best and safety snow conditions we look to hire cars and share the cost across the group. That would typically be 2-3 vehicles for a group of 7 including the guide.
Accommodation
Riksgränsen hotel offers a variety of accommodation options and restaurant options. We typically book a three person self-catering apartment for two people creating a more relaxed living space. You can also book your own room within the hotel, but please discuss the costs of this option when paying your deposit, as we can transfer your booking to guiding only. There is a local supermarket within walking distance that provides anything extra you might need.
Optional Heli-boarding - Approx £160 per drop
For the optional heli, we use Mountain Guide Travel. We recommend the 5 drop day trip, that works out to be around £160 per drop. You can contact Mountain Guide Travel direct to discuss flight options. Make sure you have adequate travel insurance cover before paying any deposits with Mountain Guide Travel, just in case the course does not go ahead. If you haven't flown before we highly recommend this experience.
Optional Skidoo to Splitboard - Approx £100
This is a very cost effective and exciting way to explore the vast backcountry options on the border of Sweden and Norway.
Ski-doo's are banned in Norway, so we can park on the border, miles from the resort and hike for our own fresh lines. We aim to do 1 day of this depending on weather, avalanche conditions and riders budgets.
This course includes:
7 Nights 2 person shared self-catering apartment
5 Days guiding
1 set of bed linen & towels per person for the apartment

"Our trip to Riksgransen with Maverix was an awesome adventure I won't soon forget. While the resort itself is small and the weather wildly variable there was always a slew of options available for activities that ensured things never got dull. Some highlights of the trip have to be the heliboarding (something everyone should do at least once as it is an incredible experience that offered some of the longest and best runs I've ever had) and the snowmobile adventure across a frozen lake, as well as our multiple splitboard missions to ride the varied terrain Riks has to offer. Besides this there was also great riding to be had in resort both on and off piste and some great little cliff drops to be found - all in all an extremely memorable trip for those with an adventurous spirit!"
What feedback am I able offer as a first time user of Maverix Snowboarding? For Riksgransen you will need a decent level of fitness and you will need to be a competent rider. As an older snowboarder I’ve been around the block in terms of snowboarding experiences; tuition focused camps, guide focused camps, (and everything in between).
With the prerequisite criteria’s in mind I believe I am able to make a sound judgement in relation to what is or what is not a decent set up.
All that being said let’s get back to Maverix! Would I use them again? Hell yes, I already am. Booked on a camp for next year. Nothing much left to say, other than I was so tired after all the additional activities crammed into the camp that I probably need to book another holiday to get over the holiday. I’ve just had an awesome trip, awesome group, awesome organisation AND all done within a safe and professional environment.
