Tailored Riding Progression

1-4 RIDERS

ยฃ35+ Lift Pass

Snowboarding is an amazing sport but sadly the skills it takes to feel confident and in control of the board beyond just cruising an easy blue is perishable. Board feel and riding conditioning drop's off significantly the longer you leave the board bag zipped up.

For many the one week a year snowboard holiday or not enough to boost progression or feel fully at ease on the board. This is where I can step in.

As an coach with over 25 years riding and teaching experience I can draw on a wealth of drills and exercises to effectively iron out any kinks and provide a more structured progression programme that'll keep your skills fresh all year or provide a top up booster before your annual trip. The primary streams of group coaching are outlined below and take place at Hemel Snow Centre.

Groundtricks & Flatland Freestyle Coaching
A piste focused groundtrick workshop that builds foundational and creative board control skills. Each session will develop around a particular rotation and or press/butter that can be combined into more technical and impressive groundtrick combinations. A perfect start for aspiring freestyle riders or those looking to have way more fun on a board.

Freestyle Park Coaching
For groups of 1-4 riders. Freestyle sessions take place on a Thursday night and occasional Friday night park sessions at Hemel Snow Centre. These are split by skill level to allow for a more bespoke coaching product and improved rider safety.

Mogul Performance Coaching
A performance-focused riding course that uses moguls as a tool to develop the skills needed for off-piste terrain, tree runs, and variable snow conditions. The stronger your mogul riding, the more confidently you can handle challenging terrain across the whole mountain. These sessions are split into two levels to accommodate new and experienced mogul riders.

Prices exclude lift pass. These courses are open to all riders at recreational standard, i.e. be able to control speed, confidently link turns & use a poma/button lift/chairlift. We ask that children under the age of 18 years be accompanied by an adult, to enable supervision at all times. Missed courses cannot be refunded or moved to future dates.

What the riders think...

"I can highly recommend Maverix coaching. Just do it. You wonโ€™t regret it. Your riding will be better, your progression goals will be realised, youโ€™ll have a lot of fun along the way, meet some awesome people and become part of a rad riding crew.

For the group sessions J always tries to match up skill-levels and does his best on each session to work with all. They are great for the camaraderie and bants. But every now and again itโ€™s well worth a private session if you want that dedicated 1:1 to really focus on something and get it on full lock. Iโ€™d advise going for the best of both worlds if you can. And of course, do get on one of the trips for an awesome adventure and shred."

"First off I'm very picky with who I book as a coach. I am a qualified instructor myself and some will argue why do I need a coach. It's impossible to be good at everything and freestyle is an area I wanted to improve. The level of 'technical' chat was adjusted to individual needs and it was backed up with video feedback which I personally found very useful. I came away from the session with tools to help me in my own practice and added confidence in my own ability.

Outside of the session he is always happy to offer further feedback or answer any questions you may have. If you want to improve your riding or enter the world of freestyle then I highly recommend you drop Maverix a line and book a session.."

"My two sons, aged 9 and 16, had snowboarding lessons with James in Hemel Hempstead, and we couldnโ€™t be happier with the experience. James made the lessons a lot of fun, which kept both of my boys engaged and excited to learn more. He tailored each session to match their individual skill levels, adapting his approach as they progressed. They both picked up some impressive new tricks, and I could really see their confidence growing with each lesson.

James used a variety of teaching techniques, which was perfect for helping the boys tackle any challenges they faced along the way. Itโ€™s clear he knows how to work with kids of different ages and abilities, making sure they both felt supported and motivated. I highly recommend James to anyone looking for a skilled and engaging snowboarding coach."
